dishwasher smell
Usually I run the dishwasher and when it's done I prop the door open to let the dishes air-dry. We've been munching on Thanksgiving leftovers so I left the clean dishes in the dishwasher for a few days. I started to notice a smell from the kitchen and discovered that the last time it was run the water didn't drain and there was soured water sitting in the... more »

Calvin Trillin on The Daily Show
Does it get any better? If you don't know Calvin Trillin, look up "The Tummy Trilogy". And read. And thrill to truly fine writing. I'm going onto Amazon and buyin' this book that they're hawking of Trillin's - it's all done in rhyme. Too funny. I learned from Reader's Digest when I was just a wee lass that "laughter is the best medicine".... more »

Pot roast dinner
I picked up two small boneless shoulder roasts this afternoon, one for us, one for a meal for friends. I nearly choked on the price of them -- holy crap, they were $4.29/lb! I browned them and let them cook in the oven with carrots (lots of carrots -- oh, were they sweet!), a couple pieces of celery and some browned onions. Sprinkled all with... more »

Killfiles
I'm already beginning to understand the value of kill files in this group. I've started adding ID's... no doubt there'll be more soon enough... not least because of the multitude of morphs and fake addies they use. Anyone wanting to make sure I'm 'me' can visit the 'Australian Opinion' forum. We're a bit boring but there're no trolls there!... more »

Turkey Ballontine
This year I was considering making a Turkey Ballontine for Xmas this year. We usually have a cold buffet and help ourselves when hungry. This is partly because of the weather but partly because I hate spending all day cooking and preparing food when everyone else is having fun unwrapping presents and playing! :)... more »

Using the Car Boot as a Cooler.
Back in the UK Master Chef Delia Smith recently advocated leaving a dish of cooked turkey legs in the car boot *overnight* to cool before being properly refrigerated if eaten cold! Wouldn't work here in Oz because temperatures of 40 C+ do funny things to poultry. If we left it out overnight it'd be tapping on the door by... more »

Peter Lucas - Rumoured
It is rumoured that Lucas is on his way to execute his imagined stalker. I wonder if Lucas is going to run the stalker over with his hire or use his pressure point skills that he acquired in the Green Berets?

Gordon's Xmas tip
I'd like Gordon's tip slipped into my ring but only if it looks like a large purple bloated sausage. You too?
