orkut Known Issues

We're always working to resolve problems that pop up on orkut. If your problem is listed below, we're aware of the issue and are working to fix it as soon as possible. To see more information on an issue, just click "View Details & Report." Clicking the "Report it" button will save you the time of sending us an email but will ensure that we're notified about your issue.

Profile Settings & Profile Problems My profile or picture updates aren't reflected. View Details & Report If your friends don't see your updated profile name or photo, you should make sure they've recently cleared their cache and cookies. Sometimes updates can take a few days (or longer) to appear. We're unable to help you make updates to a particular profile. Report it My birthday isn't showing up. View Details & Report If your friends can't see your birthday make sure you've changed your birthday settings and that they're set up to show bday notifications. Report it The number counter is off -- I don't have any unread messages, the number of scraps is wrong, etc. View Details & Report Some users see an incorrect number of friends, fans, scraps, unread messages, community members, or photos in their profile. The numbers in your profile are automatically generated and can't be manually changed. However, this incorrect number doesn't affect the actual content of your friends list, fans, scrapbook, inbox, community, or album. Most users report that this problem goes away on its own in a few days. Report it My profile/community isn't appearing in the search results. View Details & Report Some users can't find their profiles or communities in the orkut search results. We're always improving the search function, but cannot manually alter the results. If you still don't see it listed after a few days, try selecting the option to "show all languages." Report it 'Recent visitors' section isn't updating. View Details & Report We're aware of this problem and are working hard to resolve it. Report it I'm seeing a 403 error page or the message 'We're sorry...but your query looks similar to automated requests.' View Details & Report Problem: Google shows these error pages when automated traffic coming from a network is detected (this traffic is against our Terms of Service). Workaround: Try switching browsers (i.e., Mozilla Firefox version 1.5 and up), and scan your computer for malware, spyware and viruses. You can use Norton's AntiVirus software (part of the Google Pack), or one of these: Spybot, CWShredder, or Ad-Aware. Report it I'm seeing the error 'You're temporarily unable to perform this action. Try again later.' View Details & Report To prevent spam, orkut has limited how many actions you can perform in a certain amount of time. If you're trying to send many scraps, add a lot of friends, or post a lot of topics and events during a short period of time, you might see this message. If you haven't performed many repeated actions, your computer may have a virus. You can install the Google Pack to scan your computer for viruses and spyware. Report it Every time I try to delete a scrap, I'm redirected to a sign-in page. View Details & Report Problem: The scrap probably contains a malicious script -- it's not a virus, it's only a invisible code. Workaround: While we work to address this problem, you can open a new tab or window from your scrap page, access www.orkut.com, and enter your username and password. Go back to the scrap page and delete the malicious scrap. If you don't know which one it is, delete everything suspicious. You can do the same thing when your display language preference is changed by a malicious code in one of your scraps. Report it I can't upload multiple photos at the same time. View Details & Report The upload photo button may disappear, or you may have difficulty viewing albums. We're currently working to address these issues. Remember, the photo bulk uploader only works with Internet Explorer. Report it Issues with Communities The number of members in my community dropped for no apparent reason. View Details & Report Although we continually work to display the most accurate data possible, sometimes the number counter in your community might not be correct. This is likely a temporary issue, and doesn't affect the actual number of members in your community. Report it Adding/Removing related communities. View Details & Report The limit of 9 related communities is not working as intended. Some owners are able to add more than 9 communities, and will see a JavaScript error when attempting to remove any related community from the list. We're working to reinstate the limit and avoid the error messages. Report it I'm getting an error message when I try to add related communities. View Details & Report Some users are getting the 'Hmmm, we didn't get that' error when trying to add a related community. Some owners occasionally are able to add more than nine related communities, and will see a JavaScript error when attempting to remove any community from the list. We're currently working to fix these issues. Report it Security & Abuse Is this email from orkut? Is orkut going to delete my account? View Details & Report Have you received a suspicious email that appears to be from orkut? Click here to find out more about hoax emails or spam on orkut. Here's an example of a recent wave of emails going around that are trying to direct you to a suspicious site:    "That's a pretty sweet page you've got there. This whole Orkut world is kinda blowing my mind these days...You should check out my profile on this other site, I'm always on over there and I doubt if i'll be logging in to orkut everyday: http://www.XXXXX" Please exercise caution before clicking on any links or downloadable files, even if they appear to be from orkut. Report it All my scraps are gone! View Details & Report Has somebody said that they've hacked your account and deleted all your scraps? Find out if it's true. Unfortunately, we can't restore any deleted content to your profile. If you think that someone else has access to your account, please change your password. If that doesn't stop them, please report your stolen profile so we can disable access to your account. Report it I deleted my profile, but it's still up. View Details & Report Some users have noticed that when they delete their orkut account, their profile may still be visible. Please know that it may take more than 48 HOURS for a profile to be completely deleted. You will not be able to log in to this profile, but it should completely disappear soon. If you continue to see it 48 hours after deleting it, try logging in here and try again. Report it

Recent Fixes The information in the "professional" section of your profile should now show recent updates. The homepage was sometimes inaccessible if birthday notifications were turned on, but are back to normal now. When writing a testimonial, the character count is now accurate. You can now add video scraps (they were occasionally disappearing). The "pending members" and "community transfer requests" bugs have been fixed! An occasional incorrect number in the video counter doesn't affect the actual number of videos you can upload. Are you using a supported browser?
