About Secret Shows

Maybe you were there that night in New York. Or maybe you were at a club tucked away in a small town like Columbia, South Carolina. Maybe you stood in line during a heat wave. Or maybe you sat there while the snow began piling up on the street. Whatever the case may be, if you have ever been to a Secret Show, then chances are, it was a night you'll never forget. For the past two years, MySpace has been giving users the chance to get closer to their favorite bands, by putting on surprise shows all across the country. The way it works is simple: Add Secret Shows as a friend and if there's a show coming near you, we'll let you know a couple days beforehand. So keep checking back and we'll see you soon :)

Last Show Recap

Details: Trivium - 9/22/08 Hollywood, CA

So what is exactly is the point of MySpace? To keep in touch with your friends? To discover new music? To have a place to post really awesome cell phone pictures of yourself?

Actually, none of these are the reason people come to the site– at least not according to Trivium frontman Matt Heafy “MySpace is all about people finding each other and hooking up and having sex,” Heafy said, looking out at the crowd in the middle of this incredibly intimate Secret Show. “Man, this is really cool."

Yet, as even Heafy would admit, hooking up isn’t the only reason to use MySpace. After all, you could also find out about shows like this one. Trivium, who are in the middle of a sold out US tour, let their fans know about this Secret Show through a series of blogs and bulletins. They came out in droves to be at Trivium show like no other. The hugely popular metal titans played a whole string of songs off their new album, Shogun, including lead single "Down From The Sky." But they also dusted off a wailing track that Heafy introduced as “the first song we wrote together ever.” They then lunged into “Ember To Inferno,” the title track from their 2003 debut.

But this was also an extremely loose show for the band (“Usually, we are all serious and shit,” Heafy admitted to crowd) and because of this mthey felt comfortable enough to play a few leftfield covers. Almost miraculously, the Floridian metalheads shifted from Metallica’s “Cyanide” to Bilink-182’s “Dammit” to Lynrd Skynrd’s “Sweet Home Alabama” – playing each for a whopping fifteen seconds a piece.

It definitely was a memorable –not to mention fun – Secret Show and it wouldn’t have been possible without the help of several people. So then, thanks goes out to the guys in Trivium, their awesome road crew, Jeremy at Roadrunner, the staff at The Whisky and, of course, all of you.

We'll see you at the next show.
